Snippets of Life’s Wisdom

Posted January 17, 2008 · Charles O

As I am apt to do oftentimes, I took notes of these points while reading an article awhile ago. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the title or source of the article; nonetheless, I think the points are such poignant tidbits of wisdom, I’m taking the liberty of posting them here.

(I have decided not to impose any particular expatiation; I leave it up to the individual reader to do that, based on his/her own context.)

* Care as if it’s your own
* Do your daily work with passion
* Build long-term relations based on trust
* Dream big
* Set the right expectations
* Ask for help
* Set high standards
* Know your values
* Read
* Plan by outcomes rather than activities (e.g., what do I want to accomplish this week?)
* Think long-term… increase your time horizon… think of your lifetime as your time horizon
* Create an annual plan
* Embrace uncertainty; don’t be afraid to ask for help
* Engage with a mentor/coach
* Be relevant to others
* Lead a volunteer effort
* Balance innovation and continuous improvement: no innovation is ever complete… innovate, then improve continuously, then innovate again
* Learn to sell
* Understand systems… (System: an entity which maintains its existence through the mutual interaction of its parts)… understand the effect of changing one part of any system you’re involved in (organization, project, etc.)
* There are no free lunches
* Influence the influencers
